De Regenbogen school
De Regenboog belongs to the foundation MarCanT. MarCanT has 11 schools in Hengelo, Borne, Oldenzaal, Markelo, Delden and Goor. All schools are located in the east of the Netherlands.
De Regenboog is a small school. We have 140 pupils in the age 4 -12 years. That means we have 8 grades. Our fourth grade joined this project, the 7,8 year old children.

King’s Day is the 27 April. The last Friday before this day is set as a day for the recently inaugurated King’s Games.
The King’sGames are a Sports Festival, supported by the Orange family (the Dutch royal family). It’s meant for the participation of all the children in Primary Schools in the Kingdom of the Netherlands.
Last year (2013) was the first edition of these Games. Prince Willem-Alexander is a keen sportsman, and so when he became King, the King’sGames were introduced.
Last year more than1,3 million pupils joined the King’s Games. That’s why it is expected that the King's Games will go on each year. The purpose of this day is to show the children that it is important to participate in sports and that they can enjoy sports.
De Regenboog is a school in Borne. In Borne we co-operate with all local primary schools, the sports Associations and the municipality. We started at school with a appetising, healthy breakfast. Then we left the school to go to the sportsfields. The older children went by bike, the younger children were taken by car. First we sang and danced “Doe de Kanga”. Then there was a circuit of sports activities such that, we could engange with them the whole day. The weather was pleasant, sunny but not too warm. We had a lovely day and when we went home, the holiday started. When you look on our website, you can see some photos: https://sites.google.com/site/tunecagraz
There is no traditional dance for King’s Day. A long time ago, the Dutch dance and sang in wooden shoes. Those were the days when they also walked on wooden shoes. That time is long gone. There is no tradional Dutch dance. We do have Dutch songs and dances we sing at school and during festivities. The children from the fourth grade choose the song: "Ten little fish." (See our website for more information.)
On Monday 2nd of June we made a live-connection with our partners from Catalonia and Turkey and we sang and danced together. We sang multilingually, each in our own language and we listened to our partners from Catalonia and Turkey. We all sang and danced "Happy" together.
Waiting for the Catalonian pupils to arrive.

We found that we have a lot of songs in common, so we chose "Old MacDonald", and sang it in our own language. In this way, the children from 4th grade could hear the known song in their own and also in another language. Because they knew the song, they would understand it in both.

Op de dierenboerderij, hihahihaho,
Zingen alle koeien blij, hihahihaho,
Met een boe boe hier en een boe boe daar,
Op de dierenboerderij, hihahihaho,
Zingen alle koeien blij, hihahihaho.
Result of the evaluation
There are 23 children. They all filled in the evaluation form. As you can see, most of our pupils enjoyed this project.
The tittle is: The children from the fourth grade of de Regenboog made contact with school in Catalonia and Turkey.
