VoiceS PROJECT “A day in my life”

We have joined this project because we believe it offers a wide range of opportunities for students to learn and be part of a whole European school community. We have based our work on developing knowledge and understanding among students’ values, language, lifestyle and  European cultures diversity. Simultaneously, aiming to develop students' communicative ability with English language both in oral and in written comminication skills. It was a new challenge for us to join in this project, especially for the students involved since it was their first time. They were very anxious and curious. Our participation in the project started with two students from 6th grade and a class from 8th grade.

We started our work presenting the teachers and students involved in the project with some uploaded pictures.

First we made a small tour for our school in order to decide which classrooms we wanted to show. Then, in the Art lesson helped by the Art teacher and classmates we prepared our classrooms headings. Next, we did another tour around school to stick these appropriately on the walls.

Art work

In  English lessons we wrote a brief description of our school. Since it is part of the curriculum, this work was very profitable. Finally, we uploaded some pictures and our text to the project blog by the end of April.

Meanwhile, we went several times to the library to visit the project blog and we also to invite our schoolmates to visit it. It allowed our students to learn more about common and different lifestyles, routines and cultural values.  It was amusing to learn about culture in this new way.

Working online

The third task was to describe and prepare a day of our daily routine.

In order to make the video we prepared several bilingual cards so we could show viewers the Portuguese words. Students wrote about their daily routine from when they woke up, their meals, how they come to school and their schedule during a school day.

Recording videos

Recording videos

Preparing the video was the best part, it was a great pronunciation exercise and at the same time we were having a lot of fun doing it. Once again, it was a different way of learning English especially because of its main purpose (to be shown to a different community).

The video was uploaded to the project blog in May.

Joining the project was a great experience both for the students our teachers.
