We are a small public school in the town of Montcada i Reixac (35 000 inhabitants) in the metropolitan region of Barcelona. We are a single-form entry school with a total of 225 pupils between 3 and 12 years old and 15 teachers. It is a single-form entry school with pupils who come from different countries like Morocco, Pakistan, Colombia and Russia with a wide variety of languages and backgrounds. This gives to our school a sense of diversity and the pedagogical project of the school is based on offering pupils a rich environment where their personal growth as well as their learning is supported. Critical thinking, tolerance, responsibility and respect for both her/him and others are among the main promoted values. The language of the school is Catalan and we enhance Catalan culture to strengthen cohesion between our pupils. Spanish and English are introduced since pre-primary. CLIL project (Content language in Integrated Learning) is currently being implemented, involving Maths and Science. We are an Eco-school and we have an environmental education programme. You can visit our website www.xtec.cat/ceipelturomontcada

We participated in two Comenius projects on climate change and the importance of saving electricity and we took part in the ETSize project, attending an intensive course in Brussels and the final conference in Turkey. We are a partner of the VOICE of European TeacherS (Voices) network.

Developing the project "A Day in the Life of..."

The project "A Day in the life of ..." aims to raise our students' awareness of the European dimension (identity and culture) using both English and ICT to communicate with each other.

A total of 23 sixth graders have participated in the project.

The fist activity carried out was to introduce themselves and the school to the European partners. Students got in pairs and introduced each other. They also took some pictures of the school and wrote a short text describing it. All these materials were posted in the blog that was created for the project.

Students watched the videos that their partners have created and wrote comments and questions in the blog.

Students watching videos

Then students worked on describing a day in their lives. They got in groups and created posters with their getting up time, what they usually have for breakfast and how do they go to school. Three short videos were recorded with the students explaining their posters.

Meanwhile, they enjoyed commenting on other students' videos and photos and answering the questions posted in our section of the blog.

Using the project blog

Finally, a short video was recorded stating some similarities and differences students found out while watching the products made by their partners.

Students got engaged in the different activities from the beginning and greatly enjoyed reading and commenting on the different posts in the blog.

"A great music lesson! My favourite music is metal and rock." By Aleix
"I like the video because the girl explains what she does in 1 day." By Júlia
"I like your school. It's really beautiful." By Diego
"The school is very big. And video dancing salsa is brilliantly." By Yasmina

It has been an exciting experience and we highly recommend other schools to join the VoiceS network and take part in projects like this.
