Teaching practice

With beginning of March, I had my first teaching practice at Skola 49. From the first day on, they welcomed me with open arms. They were all very friendly and gave me the possiblity to teach almost on my own. I am very happy that I had a really nice mentor during my time at the school.

In Skola 49 there were learners from the age of 6 to 18. I had the chance to teach learners from the age of 10 to 14. During my last days at this school, my mentor as well as the learners gave me a very nice farewell.

The teaching style in Latvia is pretty much different than in Austria. Frontal teaching as well as work sheets almost all the time. Nevertheless the pupils are used to it and they have a very good level of English. I would say that there were 3 or 4 children in the class which should have been in a higher class as they were bored during the lessons.

I think the teaching practice was the best experience during my time in Latvia. I got to know a completely new kind of teaching and I am very thankful for this experience.
