Finland, University of Oulu

The first month

The time went Quikly! It is exactly one month ago today that this adventure began. Much has happened!
I begin with the orientation days:
On these days, we received information about school, but also about our room and we had to sign the lease of our room. It was all well organized. The school is a lot bigger than I used to, but it's fun! In these days I met many people. On Friday there was the Oulu-tour. So we got to know the city a bit. Very handy! The schedule looks good. Often only one or two classes per day. The classes last 1.5 hours and it is noticeable that there are many discussions in the classroom. Teachers find it important that students also have a share in class. The teachers are very flexible here. They are very nice. If you consult with them, there is very much possible. For example if you can not make a test, you can consult for a new appointment. There are few lessons, but you should definitely do something at home. I just finished my essay about comparative education. Which could be easily handed in through the program ‘Urkund’. Nothing needs to be handed in on paper. A lot better than in the Netherlands. These are the subjects that I follow now:

- Human Development
- Professional English
- Comparative Education: History of Europe
- Early Childhood Education and Care in Finland and in Other countries

Some courses, I almost finished and then the new courses begin.

In this month I have already done a lot of nice things. As we are with the ESN (Erasmus Student nation) went to a camping and we have done all sorts of fun activities. Furthermore, we have been on ski trip to Sweden. This was great! Skiing with -20 a good experience! The Nature was super nice and there were also a lot of fun activities. Sitting warm in the hot tub while it’s very cold outside and your hair is frozen and there were also very nice parties.

Not just on the ski trip, but also in our of apartment. There are open corridor parties here. These are parties in the corridor with all international students. A party in the city often follows. You get to know new people very quickly. Next week we do a Lapland trip with some friends. We rented a van and a cabin and do fun activities. I am really looking forward to it!

Bye, bye!
