Huelva

Huelva is a city in south-western Spain. Its province is located in the region of Andalusia. Moreover, this city is situated close to the boarder of Portugal. It has a population of around 150.000 people. Huelva and its metropolitan area have a Subtropical-Mediterranean climate, characterized by very mild and wet winters and long hot and dry summers. The average annual temperature is 23.9 °C during the day and 12.4 °C at night. The average annual precipitation is 525 mm per year, there are about 52 rainy days per year.

When we arrived in February the weather during the day was, by our standards, already very nice. However, due to the fact that the flats don’t have a heating system it was very cold during the night. Nevertheless, our landlord provided us with a small radiator and very thick blankets, so it was not a big deal and we could manage perfectly. By the end of March we could already stop using our radiators since the weather was already very hot.

Furthermore, Huelva is the city where Christoph Columbus began his journey to America. For this reason, there are two statues of Columbus, one at the harbour and the other one on the Plaza de las Monjas, which is the main square of the city.
