Erasmus action is targeted at higher education institutions and their students and staff in all 27 member states of the European Union, the three countries of the European Economic Area (Iceland, Liechtenstein and Norway), and Turkey.
Currently 2199 higher education institutions in 31 countries participate in the programme. Since the creation of Erasmus in 1987, 1.2 million students have benefited of an Erasmus study period abroad.
Erasmus seeks to enhance the quality and reinforce the European dimension of higher education by encouraging transnational cooperation between universities, boosting European mobility and improving the transparency and full academic recognition of studies and qualifications throughout the Union.
Erasmus consists of many different activities; student and teacher exchanges, joint development of study programmes (Curriculum Development), language courses (EILC),European credit transfer system (ECTS).
Overall responsibility for implementing Erasmus lies with the European Commission (Directorate-General Education and Culture).
Erasmus is an integral part of the Lifelong Learning Programme (LLP) from 2007 to 2013, replacing Socrates/Erasmus (2000-2006).
Students selected at their home universities for an academic exchange stay at UAB must fill in an online Application Form at the site http://sia.uab.es. This Application Form will be available during the following periods:
For students choosing to come in the first term or for one academic year: from May 1stto June 15th
For students choosing to come in the second term: from November 1st to December 10th
The students accepted will receive via e-mail an admission letter and a document with useful information for their future stay at UAB. Once obtained the acceptance confirmation, they must send the Learning Agreement to the Exchange Office at the Centre where they have been admitted.
